Azure VPN - Troubleshooting
Below are a list of common issues with Azure VPN. Please find your issue and follow the troubleshooting steps
No matter what your issue is, please verify you have done the following:
- Check your Windows Updates including your Optional Updates
- Verify any third party antivirus (example Malwarebytes/McAfee/Avast) are uninstall or turned completely off
- Run a Security Scan
- Restart your computer
Error Message 1: "Server did not respond properly to VPN Control Packets"
This error message can usually be resolved by doing the following:
- Find the Start Menu, right click on the Microsoft Icon, and click Settings
- Click on Time & Language
- Click on Sync now
- Refresh your connection and try connecting to Azure VPN again
If you still cant connect, restart your computer, refresh your connection and try connecting to Azure VPN again
Error Message 2: "Operation Cancelled by User"
This error message can usually be resolved by doing the following:
- Find the Start Menu, right click on the Microsoft Icon, and click Device Manager
- Click on the arrow for Network adapter
- On ALL WAN Miniport, right click and select Uninstall. A pop up might appear. Click Uninstall.
- Again you need to uninstall ALL WAN Miniports until your screen looks similar to this:
- Once all the ALL WAN Miniports are gone, right click on Network adapter, and click Scan for Hardware changes
- Your WAN Miniports should come back. Refresh your connection and try connecting to Azure VPN again
- If you still cant connect, restart your computer, refresh your connection and try connecting to Azure VPN again
Error Message 3: "Did not trigger a solution"
This error message can usually be resolved by doing the following:
- Find the Start Menu, right click on the Microsoft Icon, and click Settings
- Click on Privacy
- On the left menu, scroll down to Background Apps. Click on it.
- Turn on Azure VPN Client so that it says On. If its grayed out, at the top of the menu click let apps run in the background, and make sure Azure VPN Client is On.
- Refresh your connection and try connecting to Azure VPN again
If you still cant connect, restart your computer, refresh your connection and try connecting to Azure VPN again
Error Message 4 (MAC USERS ONLY): "Red dot showing disconnected, but the Status Log shows Success"
This error message can usually be resolved by doing the following:
- Open Finder, Click on Applications, Find Azure VPN Client, Right click and select Get Info
- Check the Box: "Open using Rosetta"
- Refresh your connection and try connecting to Azure VPN again
