Updating Your Windows PC
At Omni, you will need to ensure that your Windows PC is consistently updated as your PC will be the main way you connect onto the Omni Platform to earn revenue. Ensuring your Windows PC is updated is also crucial for performance, security, and compatibility to not only Omni Tools but your Client Tools as well. Follow the instructions below to ensure that your PC stays up-to-date and optimal.
Checking for Updates
The first step in ensuring your PC is up to date is to check if there are any available updates for your PC.
1. Click on the Start Menu
Locate the Windows or Start icon in the bottom-left corner of your screen and click on it.
2. Go to Settings
In the Start Menu, select or click on the "Settings" icon. This will typically look like a gear.
3. Go to Update & Security
Within Settings, find and click on the "Update & Security" or "Windows Update" option.
4. Check for Updates
In the Windows Update section, select or click on the "Check for Updates" button.
Install Updates
After you have checked for updates, you will now need to install those updates if your PC did not automatically download and install them for you.
1. Review the Available Updates
After check for updates, your PC will display a list of available updates. Briefly review them, to see what needs to be installed onto your PC.
- Please Note: Some Windows PCs automatically update necessary updates if you check for and see the "You're up to date" screen you are fine to move onto the next section.
2. Click Install or Download & Install
Click on the “Install” or “Download & Install” option to begin the actual update process. Your PC will need to restart a few times depending on the updates that are available, so be sure to save anything you are currently working on beforehand.
Checking for Optional or Additional Updates
Some Windows PCs have optional or additional updates they do not consider to be part of the main ‘Check for Updates’ option. Since Omni’s Secure Remote Workers require all updates, including optional or additional ones, to properly function, this section will provide you with instructions on how to complete checking for optional or additional updates.
1. Click Advanced Options
While you are within the Windows Update section through the Settings Menu, you will click on the 'Advanced Options' button.
2. Click Optional Updates
In the Advanced Options Menu, you will look for the option or button that says 'Optional Updates' and click on it.
3. Review Updates Available
Once you have clicked on Optional Updates your PC will either show if there are any optional updates that can be downloaded and installed or not. If you receive the screen below you are good to move to the next section.
Restarting Your PC
After downloading and installing all of the available updates for your PC, you will need to restart your computer. The reason for this is that some updates will only go into effect after a restart or reboot of your computer.
1. Click the Windows Icon
To restart your PC you will first need to click on the Start Menu or Windows icon in the bottom-left corner of your screen.
2. Click Power
Once your Start Menu has opened you will click on the Power icon that is usually towards the bottom-right corner of the menu.
3. Click Restart
After clicking on the Power icon you will notice that a mini power menu now appears. On this menu you will click on the Restart option to reset your PC and apply any updates.
- Please Note: Some PCs will let you know that there is an update that is waiting in the background once you click on the Power icon. To properly apply this update please be sure to select the "Update and Restart" option that is showing.
4. Congratulations!
Congratulations! Your Windows PC is now updated, ensuring optimal performance, security, and compatibility with the latest software and devices. Remember to periodically check for updates to keep your system in top shape.
